Chandigarh, December 30 The Chandigarh Police has booked eight shopkeepers on charges of stealing electricity. Those who are booked include Kala Ram, Davinder Kumar, Nimbu Lal Sharma, Shankar, Prahlad Tiwari, Jai Singh, Ram Prakash and Ram Preet, all running their shops in Colony no 5.

The police have registered criminal cases against three of the eight accused, who were caught red-handed while stealing electricity. The police have also seized the equipment used by the accused for stealing electricity. The three were not arrested till the filing of this report.

The police officials said that they would conduct similar drives in other areas from where maximum number of complaints of electricity theft is being reported.
