Chandigarh, January 28: The residents of Sarangpur village are feeling neglected as the administration has failed to provide adequate civic amenities in the village. The administration plans to set up educity, filmcity, amusement park and many other projects in Sarangpur village. However, the village does not have proper streetlights, sewerage facilities and good drinking water supply.
The process of levelling the land for the upcoming projects has already started at the allotted site. Area residents allege that no civic amenities were provided after a visit by UT advisor Pradip Mehra, nearly two months ago.
Parkash Singh, a shopkeeper and a resident of Sarangpur village said that the Mehra had promised the provision of better civic amenties. He added that no action has been taken by the civic authorities. “We are hearing about educity and filmcity coming up soon. These projects will not help us,” he said.
Surinder Singh, another villager rued the lack of adequate healthcare facilities in the village. He said, “We were promised a stadium and a health centre. Nothing has been constructed so far,” he added.
Sadhu Singh, the village sarpanch (headman), said that earlier the villagers owned nearly 600 acres of land. He added that acquisition of land by the administration has reduced the villagers share to only about 90 acres.
He claimed that the water pipelines have not been cleaned for the last 20 years.
