Rupnagar, March 24: The Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Vijender Jain has urged the people of the state to wage a joint struggle to eradicate female foeticide in Punjab.
While addressing a seminar on female foeticide organised by the Health Department, Justice Jain said: “The people of Punjab played an important role in the freedom struggle and were pioneers of green revolution in the country, but it is shameful that now Punjab has the highest number of female foeticide cases in the country.”
Chandigarh, March 24: After a litigation that stretched more than 22 years, former chief manager of Andhra Bank in Sector 17, M S Vohra along with four others was today acquitted by the Court of Special CBI Judge, Jagdeep Jain.
As per the prosecution, Vohra had granted letters of credit in favour of a company. Vohra was accused of cheating the bank by using his official powers in the favour of Tejpal Singh, Inderbir Singh, Anandpal Singh, Amrik Singh, directors of Punjab Cellulous Limited.
Chandigarh, March 24: The Punjab & Haryana High Court today issued notices to the Centre on a petition filed by a 90-year-old World War-II veteran’s widow. Subedar Narayan Singh of Samrala had served in the Indian Army.
The widow has moved the High Court for fixation of his pension of the rank of naib subedar from July 10, 1947 onward instead of sepoy that he had been getting till date.
The petition was filed through the Legal Aid Cell of the All India Ex-servicemen Welfare Association at Chandigarh.
Chandigarh, March 24: Disposing off the anticipatory bail application filed by former SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur, the Punjab & Haryana High Court has directed her to surrender before the trial court.
The lower court has been directed to decide on the regular bail application of Kaur after her surrender.
In November 2007, an Anandpur Sahib court had issued non-bailable warrants against Kaur for repeatedly showing disobedience to the court in case registered against her in December 2003 for violating prohibitary orders.
